Dave O'Dea
Chief Technology Officer at Maitre
My work sits between software architecture, product decisions and the reality of operating a system.
At Webtext, I moved from senior engineering into leadership while working on legacy platform consolidation and a move to AWS. At Nory, the focus was workforce forecasting and scheduling, alongside product and design. At Maitre, it is hotel operations and the web, mobile and AI-enabled products that support them.
The contexts change. The questions I return to are practical: what is the actual problem, what can we change safely, and how will we know the decision helped?
Leading technology and engineering for a hotel operations platform, replacing fragmented manual workflows with web, mobile and AI-enabled products.
Led a product-focused engineering team building ML-driven workforce forecasting and scheduling systems, working with product and design in a post-Series A startup.
Progressed from senior engineer into engineering leadership. Led work to consolidate legacy systems into a unified API platform and move on-premise infrastructure to AWS.
Where AI changes how products are built, and where engineering judgement remains essential.
The constraints, sequencing and trade-offs involved in changing platforms that people already depend on.
How architecture, security and operational responsibility fit together in day-to-day engineering.
Turning fragmented processes into useful products without losing the detail that makes the work difficult.
I am based in Galway, Ireland. Writing is a space for me to think through difficult problems and share what I am learning.
